The man accused of fatally shooting a male at a local park, stealing a car at gunpoint and later barricading himself in a south Laredo home has been criminally charged, according to reports.
A police report identified the suspect as Rodrigo Garza de la Cruz, 33, and the victim as Reynaldo Flores, 53. Cruz was charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery with firearm.
Police and Laredo Fire Department crews responded to multiple calls of shots fired at Ochoa Sanchez Park, where children were at a flag football practice.
First responders encountered Flores with multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen. He died at the scene, LFD said.
Authorities recovered several large caliber casings. After the shooting, Garza allegedly carjacked a man’s maroon Lincoln Town Car. A patrol officer spotted the suspected vehicle in south Laredo.
Garza then drove to a home in the Cielito Lindo neighborhood and barricaded himself. Garza surrendered after a three-hour standoff with authorities.
